As promised, here are the "7 Key Phrases" to implement, in order to increase the ERS classroom score. Don't think of it as, "Teaching to the test," but rather providing higher quality care and experiences for children!
1) SPOD and/or MOD
2) Accessible
3) Many & Varied
4) Choice (freedom of)
5) With (as in talk, play, be)
6) TLC
7) PLAY (which is how children learn after-all!!)

Sleeping Mat Thickness
While at a school, the director posed the following question...
If they took 2 1-inch sleeping mats and stacked them on top of each other and then covered them with a fitted crib sheet, could they count that as a 2-inch sleeping mat?
Please indicate what book and page the information, either for or against, can be found in.

Use of Dittos
A questions was asked about the use of dittos in VPK classrooms.
VPK does not require the use of dittos. If you choose to use them, it should be supplemental to providing concrete experiences with real objects to teach a concept. The ECERS-R is scored based on children learning through concrete experiences. This is the essence of developmentally appropriate practice.
