Does every two year old classroom have to have a changing table?
Can hand sanitizer or baby wipes be used after washing hands
Any classroom where diapers are changed should have appropriate provisions for changing diapers. We have seen diapers changed standing up in some two year groups. The key is sanitation. The All About ITERS-R on pg. 115, indicator 1.2 describes appropriate provisions for diapering.
Re: Hand sanitizer or baby wipes: There is no restriction on using these items after washing hands, however it is completely unnecessary and can be very drying to the skin.
When a classroom uses the same sink for diapering and hand washing, should the sink be sanitized after every diaper change or after all diapers have been changed?
If a pad is used on the changing table, does the person changing the diapers have to clean and sanitize under the pad and the changing table surface as well?
The primary problem is care givers are not taking off the soiled gloves before touching the fresh diaper. The wipes should be used on teacher's and child's hands after removal of dirty diaper and used gloves, before anything else is touched.
Also, hand sanitizer should not be accessible to children. It is a safety hazard.
