ITERS Diapering Procedure

When following the ITERS diapering procedure, staff remove their gloves to wipe their hands in the middle of the process. By Florida DCF standards do they have to put gloves on again to finish the diapering procedure or can they continue without gloves?

  1. Short answer: NO (The pictures on AAI pp.111-13 are easier to follow than the words on p.110.)
Gloves are to be removed after removing the soiled diaper and the child's groin area has been cleaned. One method is to wrap the glove, outside in, around the soiled diaper and place it in the hands-free trash can. Then fresh wipes are used on adult and child's hands. New gloves do not need to be put on to handle the new clean diaper and to dress the child, because there are no soiled items to be touched. If diapering table paper is used, the soiled area should be rolled up so the clean diaper and clothes can be put on with a clean surface.
