Changing area for heavy toddlers
Two questions came up in a training last evening. By all regs (QRS/DCF) can heavy or older children have a diaper or pull-up changed while standing? Can the center have a diaper changing area that consists of a mat on the floor for those children?
Barbara Cohen called me last week with a very similar question! The answer I gave her was basically, YES. The main concern is that the floor/changing surface will still need to be "cleaned with soapy water and then sanitized with bleach/water for at least 10 seconds," which is the same for any diaper changing surface. Refer to the ITERS diapering guidelines on p.110-114 of All About ITERS (AAI).
